Our Story

Teralani Sailing was born from a dream on the shores of West Maui. In the early days, our founder Mike worked as a beach attendant, setting up cabanas for sunbathers along the sands of Kaʻanapali. Each morning, as he watched the catamarans launch into the turquoise waters, he imagined creating something of his own—not just a sailing company, but an experience that captured the breathtaking beauty and spirit of Maui.
In 1994, that vision became reality. Mike launched his own sailing company and named it Teralani, after his eldest daughter. The name means “Heaven on Earth,” a perfect reflection of both the island’s natural beauty and the love he felt for his little girl. From day one, his mission was clear: to create unforgettable experiences that embody the elegance, wonder, and aloha of Maui—delivering luxury service from the cabana to the catamaran.
Over 30 years later, Teralani remains a proud, family-owned business. Mike and his dedicated team continue to offer five-star sailing charters that have become a beloved tradition in West Maui.
